Hear the World Premiere of Dr. Anthony Scelba’s recent transcriptions for string quintet of five of the 24 Preludes and Fugues for Piano by Dmitri Shostakovich, originally written in 1950-51.
Charles Pikler, the recently-retired principal viola of the Chicago Symphony, will join members of the Omaha Symphony for a performance of a string quintet written in 1831 by Georges Onslow, a French composer of British descent; and the Metamorphosen for seven strings, written in the closing months of WWII by German composer Richard Strauss.
Performers are Anne Nagosky, violin; Elizabeth Furuta, violin; Brian Sherwood, viola; Charles Pikler, viola; Tim Strang, cello; Gregory Clinton, cello; and Bill Ritchie, double bass.
