Christmas in the City

Our second annual Holiday concert features New York-based jazz musician Ben Rosenblum and his jazz trio, along with special guest singer Laura Anglade from Toronto, Canada, a young jazz vocalist currently making a name for herself on the jazz scene. Experience music of the season in the beautifully decorated sanctuary.

Ben Rosenblum has traversed a truly unique musical path, one that has seen him perform alongside world-class musicians across more than twenty music genres and twenty-five countries, lead bands at prestigious venues across the world, all while maintaining a signature, melodic musical voice. Rosenblum’s journey has taken him on tours with Grammy-winning pop artist Rickie Lee Jones, Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Catherine Russell and Juno-winning contemporary Indian singer Kiran Ahluwalia. His roots in jazz have led to an over ten-year relationship with Grammy-winning bassist Curtis Lundy, performing at festivals alongside jazz luminaries Bobby Watson, Sean Jones and Warren Wolf. He has appeared with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on accordion, and as a guest soloist on piano at Carnegie Hall’s Stern-Perelman Auditorium with Maestro Reona Ito’s New York Harmonic Band. Throughout it all, Rosenblum has always maintained the same priority – to tell a compelling story with his music, reaching the hearts of his audience and connecting on an emotional, intellectual and spiritual level.

Laura brings clarity and depth to interpretations shaped by the legendary voices of Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Horn, Carmen McRae, Michel Legrand and Barbra Streisand, among others. Her artistry has brought her to renowned stages including Paris’ Olympia, London’s Royal Festival Hall, New York’s Town Hall, and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.  An international touring artist, she has headlined jazz festivals across Canada, the US, and Europe, captivating audiences through her innate storytelling. Her hallmark is a conversational style that bridges the gap between singer and listener, making each performance feel deeply personal.

“A young hydra that’s a fount of talent that can’t be contained, Rosenblum takes on his third set with a third persona and uses it to kick ass throughout. A witty, skillful composer, the multi instrumentalist leads his first full band outing in fine form with playing and writing that are second to none.”

Chris Spector, Midwest Record

“Laura has studied all the great vocal stylists of the last century. And yet she imitates no one. Her pure tone, sparing use of vibrato, and total lack of affectation are almost startling when you first hear her, because you feel convinced that no singer has ever been so absolutely honest with you.”
